Cape Agulhas, 5km from struisbaai, is the southernmost tip of the African continent, where the Atlantic and Indian oceans collide.

Struisbaai also hosts the annual Geelstertfees (Yellowtail festival), when the town is a happy bustle of foodstalls, artists, musicians and performers.

The 14 km stretch of sand at Struisbaai is the longest beach in the Southern Hemisphere.

“strooi” in Afrikaans means straw. They say, among other tales, that Struisbaai was named for the thatch roofs of the fisherman’s cottages.
