Self catering cottages and apartments
in Struisbaai, South Africa
On the very edge of Africa, where the last of her sandy shores spill into the Atlantic, is a little slow-town called Struisbaai. A friendly, colourful coastal settlement in the beautiful Overberg region of South Africa. The ocean is always singing. The sunsets steal your words. The wilderness is rich with our world-renowned fynbos, beautiful and hardy, like our people. Here is where you’ll find us. We have four cottages and two apartments that you can call home, for as long as you might stay. All our eco-friendly units are walking distance from the beach, shops, restaurants and pub. Welcome, all you explorers, travelers and pilgrims. May you find rest and adventure, live the good life and carry sweet memories home with you.
Our goal is to become completely self-sustaining and off the energy grid. Since the installation of our solar power system, our guests have enjoyed 99% power uptime. Our solar panels provide year long power, and even pushes electricity back to the grid. We harvest rainwater, running it through a three level filtration system. You’ll never have to buy a bottle of water and your hair will love you! Our septic tank uses a natural filtration system. We use environmentally friendly LPG gas, so you will always have hot water, and be able to cook, even during South Africa’s infamous power cuts!
The quaint fishing town of Struisbaai is one of South Africa’s beloved gems. A 5km morning walk (or a short drive!) will take you to Cape Agulhas, the southernmost tip of the African continent where the Indian and Atlantic Oceans meet. Spend your days here swimming, hiking, fishing, diving and eating plenty of delicious seafood. Stroll down to the natural harbour and watch the fishermen haul in their catch. While you’re at it, look for Struisbaai’s famous stingrays that hang out at the harbour. Visit nearby nature reserves and take a wine tour. Less than three hours drive from Cape Town, Struisbaai is a necessary way-stop as you explore the breathtaking wonder of the Western Cape.
During your stay, you can arrange a walking tour with one of our local community teachers, and learn more about the local flora, our fishing community and the town’s history. We think that some of the best guides and teachers are the ones who’ve lived in these parts for a really long time! To support our local community that we love, we employ the services of our elder citizens to share their vast treasure of knowledge, experience and stories. Tours are based on teachers’ availability.
